Currently winter 1.1.x upwards supports since laravel 6.x LTS. However, since barryvdh/laravel-ide-helper 2.8.x only supports laravel 8.x upwards, causing an error to appear when executing php artisan ide-helper:generate under laravel 6.x.
The update setting ~2.7.0 will ensure that laravel-ide-helper runs from laravel 6.x up to 8.x without any problems.
Similar issue than the October version of this plugin.
After following the installation steps, I try running php artisan ide-helper:generate, then I get this error :

There are no commands defined in the "ide-helper" namespace.
When updates/initial_gen.php is run, it calls an artisan command that then decides deep in the bowels of the barryvdh package that it should disable all event dispatching with Event::swap(). This causes problems if you are trying to do anything that relies on model events after running the migrations in the same request (perhaps if you are in the same request spinning up a new database, running migrations on it, and then doing other things... - totally did not waste wayyyy too much developer time figuring that one out).
